Class Brass (Perform Saturday only)

The MEI Junior Chorale

The MEI Junior Chorale is the grade 10 choir at the Mennonite Educational Institute Secondary School in Abbotsford. The group, obviously, is brand new every year. There are 32 singers in this year’s group. The Junior Chorale are preparing for the huge annual Christmas Concert at MEI on Tuesday, Dec. 13th, where all the MEI Choirs and Bands will be featured, as well as a Music Department Mass Choir. (Plug: the concert is free and everyone is welcome). The MEI choirs are directed by Mr. Dean Wedel and, along with the singers, is excited to be a part of this celebration of the Christmas season.

The MEI Renaissance Singers, is like a "Junior Chamber Singers" group who want to be challenged in a choir with some more demanding music and prepare for the MEI Chamber Singers. Aptly named the ‘Renaissance’ Singers, this choir of grade 9’s and 10’s, sings a wide selection of styles of music. They rehearse once or twice a week for a portion of the year . . . unfortunately at 7:00 in the morning. This year’s group is 24 singers and is all girls, allowing us to explore some of the challenging ladies choir repertoire. The performance schedule has usually included a few Christmas Concerts (including the annual MEI Christmas Concert on Tuesday, Dec. 13), a couple of spring performances and a fantastic spring weekend trip to a festival in second semester. The 2010-2011 Renaissance Singers spent a beautiful sunny weekend in the BC Kootenays, while attending Festival Nelson last April and in the past have gone on trips to the Whistler Music Festival, the Sun Peaks Music Festival, and down to Seattle.

Abbotsford Concert Band

The Abbotsford Concert Band (ACB) is a community wind ensemble comprised of musicians of all ages with various levels of experience. We are a non-profit, community-based music association that focuses on rehearsing and improving our musical skills, having fun, performing locally and abroad, and contributing to community spirit through music. The Band participates in concerts, festivals, musical production performances, parades, and community events where music can lift the heart!
